Preparing for Your Surgery: What to Expect
Preparation typically begins about a week prior to your appointment. You may need to adjust your diet and medications based on your provider's instructions. Typically, the process includes:
- Medication Changes: You will be instructed to stop or adjust taking certain medications such as blood thinners, weight loss medications, and/or diabetic medications up to 7 days before your procedure. For a complete list, see the medication table below. If you are taking any of these medications and have not received instructions, please call our office at (971)254-9884.
- Diet Changes: For in-patient surgeries, our providers follow Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols that aim to help patients recover more quickly and with fewer complications. Part of this program recommends that patients add a nutritional supplement, Impact Advanced Recovery Drink to their diet before and after their surgery.
Some surgeries may require a clear liquid diet the day before your procedure. - Bowel Prep: You may be asked to take a laxative solution or enema to clear your bowels before your procedure. The specific timing and instructions will depend on your surgery and the time of your procedure.
Your healthcare provider will give you detailed, personalized instructions to guide you through the process.
